Databricks, Anthropic Make Big Moves

Over the past few weeks, Prime Unicorn Index component Anthropic has made multiple significant moves, hiring former Airbnb and Fanatic executive Krishna Rao as CFO and Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, as Chief Product Officer. As previously reported, Anthropic has closed funding deals worth about $7.3 billion in the past year, and its recent deal with Amazon has brought the company’s valuation to $18.1 billion, as measured by the Prime Unicorn Index. Investors include Amazon, Google, Spark Capital, Salesforce Ventures, Zoom Ventures, Ark Invest, and Sound Ventures.

In other news, Databricks is acquiring Tabular, a data optimization startup, for between $1 and $2 billion. This is the company’s second $1B+ acquisition in the past 12 months and follows recent news that Databricks passed $1.6 billion in revenue for the year ended January 31. This represents a growth rate of over 50% for the company that most recently raised $684.6 million at a $35B valuation, as calculated by the Prime Unicorn Index.
