The Benchmark for Private Market Transparency
On Tuesday, June 16, the Prime Unicorn 30™ Index closed at 303.20, its first-ever close above 300, and an all-time high. Since launching at a base value of 100 on January 21, 2021, the benchmark has more than tripled, a +203% climb that now stands as the highest level in its history.
For the Prime Unicorn 30™ Index, the round number matters less than what it represents. Private companies have long been the hardest corner of the market to price: a valuation gets set at a funding round, then sits frozen for months or years until the next one. The index exists to change that and to put a transparent, daily price on the largest U.S. venture-backed companies. Crossing 300 isn’t simply a number going up; it’s evidence that an asset class that once updated about as often as a new funding round can now be tracked every single trading day.
Value You Can See As It Happens
The path to 300 is its own argument for price transparency. The index is up roughly 41% year to date in 2026 and gained about 8% in the week leading into the milestone alone. None of that surfaced after the fact in a delayed mark or a press release about the next round, it printed in real time, session by session, the way public-market value always has and private-market value rarely could.
After Tuesday’s record close, the index eased to 298.77 on Wednesday, slipping back below the level it had just crossed. That daily movement is the point: private valuations have traditionally only changed when a new funding round reset them. A one-day dip like this would never have registered at all, but a live benchmark captures daily changes, giving investors a continuous read on a market they could once only check once a round.

A Liquidity Milestone, Priced the Whole Way In
The timing is no accident. The index broke 300 in the same week that SpaceX, its top-weighted component, priced the largest IPO in history at a $1.75 trillion valuation. That is the private-to-public pipeline working exactly as the index tracks it: years of value creation behind closed doors converting into public liquidity in a single session, with the benchmark pricing the run the entire way up.
SpaceX is far from alone in driving the move. The index’s largest holdings now read like a map of the AI buildout. Anthropic, OpenAI, Cerebras, and Databricks all sit among the top components. These are all massive names whose valuations have compounded rapidly over the last few years, precisely while still private. That is the real significance of 300. The level will be tested, surpassed, and revisited, but the ability to watch it move, every trading day, is what the benchmark was built to deliver.
Per Prime Unicorn Index methodology, newly public components such as SpaceX remain in the index until the quarterly reconstitution following their 150th trading day, allowing investors to track performance through the critical post-listing period before the company transitions fully into public-market benchmarks.
