AI in the Prime Unicorn Index

Lately, many venture funds’ attention has turned to AI startups. For example, companies such as Salesforce have recently launched AI-specific funds, and VCs have been allocating more funds to generative AI, with as much as $2.1B dedicated to the space in 2022, a 425% jump since 2020. In addition, the launch of products such as ChatGPT has also captured the public’s attention. Given all the hype surrounding the sector, this week, we will take some time to highlight the AI-focused companies in the Prime Unicorn Index. 

Dataiku operates one of the world’s leading AI and machine learning platforms, supporting agility in organizations’ data efforts via collaborative, elastic, and responsible AI, all at enterprise scale. It has a valuation of $4.9B and most recently raised a round on 07/28/2021 for $188M. Notable investors include Tiger Global, Battery Ventures, Insight Venture Partners, Snowflake Ventures, FirstMark Capital, and others.

Olive AI (AKA: Olive) provides artificial intelligence and solutions that deliver hospitals and health systems increased revenue, reduced costs, and increased capacity. It has a valuation of $3.9B and most recently raised a round on 6/28/21 for $450.3M. Notable investors include Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, Tiger Global, Google Ventures, Vista Equity, Base10, and Sequoia Global Equities, among others. 

Cerebras builds computer systems for complex artificial intelligence deep learning applications. It has a valuation of $3.5B and most recently raised a round on 10/17/21 for $300M. Notable investors include Benchmark, Altimeter, Coatue, Alpha Wave, Abu Dhabi Growth Fund, Eclipse, and Foundation, among others. 

Tekion is a cloud-built platform with advanced machine learning and AI capabilities for a personalized and seamless consumer experience. It has a valuation of $3.4B and raised its last round on 10/6/21 for $250M. Notable investors include Index Ventures, Hyundai, Alliance Ventures, BMW iVentures, FM Capital, and Advent International, among others.

Eightfold.ai operates a Talent Intelligence Platform that provides talent acquisition and management solutions. It has a valuation of $1.8B and most recently raised a $221.81M round on 6/23/21. Notable investors include General Catalyst, Lightspeed, Capital One, SoftBank, Foundation, and Institutional Venture Partners.

Paradox offers Olivia, which is an AI assistant for recruiting. It has a valuation of $1.5B and raised its last round on 12/22/21 for $250M. Notable investors include Workday Ventures, Brighton Park Capital, Stripes Group, and Sapphire Ventures, among others.

ASAPP builds AI-Native® products to solve large, complex, data-rich problems by automating and augmenting human workflows, radically improving efficiency and effectiveness to empower people to be their best. It has a valuation of $1.5B and most recently raised $117.8M on 4/30/21. Notable investors include Fidelity, March Capital, Telstra Ventures, HOF Capital, and Euclidean Capital, among others.

Viz.ai is an artificial intelligence medical imaging company that helps optimize emergency treatment. The Company’s AI is designed to help speed up the time it takes for doctors to diagnose patients accurately as well as make comparisons instantly to thousands of scans to find patterns that lead to precise treatments. Its valuation is $1.1B, and it most recently raised $100M on 4/7/22. Notable investors include Tiger Global, Google Ventures, Threshold Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Susa Ventures, Greenoaks, and Sozo Ventures, among others. 

Electric AI is an IT management software designed to help businesses monitor network security and manage applications, operating systems, databases, and more via a unified platform. It has a valuation of $1B and most recently raised $20M in a round on 3/29/22. Notable investors include Primary Venture Partners, Slack Fund, 01 Advisors, Bessemer, Atreides, and GGV Capital, among others.

 

In addition to these companies, many other components have begun implementing AI technology into their products. One recent example is Navan (FKA: TripActions) which announced it had integrated OpenAI’s API into its virtual travel assistant, Ava, which it claims makes it the first travel company to use this technology.
